Cooper Lighting and Security has supplied the fire detection and emergency lighting systems for the new Earth Sciences building at Durham University.
The main part of the building is protected by a Menvier four-loop analogue addressable fire detection system, linked to more than 250 smoke detectors, call points and sounders. The company also supplied a Vesda early-warning smoke detection system for the building's computer room, which is a separate high-security area containing an array of powerful and valuable computers.
The high-sensitivity Vesda system is connected to a remote display some 200m away in the university's security lodge. Over 200 Menvier standalone emergency luminaires were installed throughout the building, including Eurolite flush-mounted luminaires and recessed Safe Edge exit signs, with Atlantic Plus IP65-rated luminaires chosen for exterior applications.
