Weiser, Idaho, has decided to recoup money it spends following up on false fire alarms. The small town on the border of Oregon and Idaho is primarily a rural community, with just over 5,000 residents.
Nonetheless, it's facing its fare share of false fire alarms. According to a new ordinance approved by the town's city council, the town will begin charging a fine for false signals.
The council allowed for three false fire alarms to go without fines, but on the fourth alarm within a year, the fine will be levied at $360. Additional false alarms in that same year's time will also require the payment of another fine.
