Jimmy Wooten has temporarily stepped down while facing health problems

Jimmy Wooten, head of the Transportation Security Administration for Dallas/Fort Worth Airport, has been diagnosed with cancer and has temporarily stepped down from the job.

Jim Lair, a former Navy admiral and director for the FlightSafety Learning Center at D/FW, becomes acting TSA federal security director at D/FW Airport.

Wooten said he plans to stay involved in day-to-day activities as much as possible as he undergoes cancer treatments.

"I fully expect and plan to return to my commitment to the flying public, TSA, our 1,600 employees and to the airport," Wooten said. "I will remain a resource for Admiral Lair on our continuing security efforts."

Lair's background with the Navy is extensive. He also previously worked for Lockheed Martin.
