The PCI Security Standards Council (PCI SSC) has appointed Ed O’Neill as Head of Business Operations and Risk Management, a newly announced leadership role overseeing business operations, enterprise risk management, governance, compliance and quality oversight.
O’Neill joins PCI SSC with more than 20 years of leadership experience spanning risk management, payment security, fraud mitigation and global regulatory compliance within the financial services and payments industry. His career includes positions with the Federal Reserve Bank of Chicago, PULSE, Discover Network and Capital One.
Most recently, O’Neill served as vice president of the Global Payment Network Risk Office at Capital One. In that position, he was responsible for implementing programs to identify, manage and mitigate operational, regulatory, payment security and broader business risks across Discover Network, PULSE and Diners Club International.
"We are excited to have Ed join PCI SSC as our Head of Business Operations and Risk Management," said Gina Gobeyn, Executive Director of the PCI Security Standards Council. "Ed brings a wealth of experience to the Council. Throughout his career, Ed has built and led high-performing teams, strengthened governance and control environments, and driven large-scale, cross-functional initiatives across complex, global organizations."
O’Neill said he has been engaged with PCI SSC since its launch in 2006 and has witnessed the organization's efforts to bring the payments industry together to strengthen payment security.
"I am excited to join the Council and lead the Business Operations and Risk Management function," O’Neill said. "I am fortunate to have been engaged with the Council since its launch in 2006 and have seen first-hand the value the Council continues to deliver by bringing the industry together to enhance the security of the payments ecosystem. Building and implementing programs and risk management frameworks to advance the safety, security, and resiliency of the global payment system has been a focus throughout my career in financial services. I look forward to continuing to evolve the Council’s operations and risk management practices in support of the mission to enhance global payment data security."
O’Neill holds an undergraduate degree and a Master of Business Administration from Loyola University in Chicago.
