TOP Worldwide has introduced its Secure Driver Network, a new initiative aimed at enhancing cargo security by verifying driver identity using AI and biometric technology before shipments are dispatched.

The launch comes as cargo theft in the U.S. reached $725 million in 2025, driven by increasingly sophisticated criminal networks targeting supply chains. Beyond financial losses, theft incidents can disrupt production, delay deliveries and erode customer trust.

“Our focus is on protecting our customers and carriers,” said Jeff Berlin, COO of TOP Worldwide. “The Secure Driver Network confirms that we know who is hauling the freight, not just where it is.”

The company’s upgraded system evaluates drivers using more than 40 data signals, including domicile status and other risk factors, to confirm identity. This approach moves beyond traditional paperwork and manual vetting, providing shippers with greater assurance that each load is handled by a verified professional.

With the addition of AI-driven verification, TOP Worldwide said it can confirm driver and carrier authenticity in real time prior to dispatch, identify high-risk loads and prevent potential theft, and improve reliability while reducing service failures.

The initiative also addresses a growing shift in cargo theft tactics. Many incidents now occur at the point of pickup, where fraudulent actors pose as legitimate carriers or drivers, creating new challenges for brokers and shippers.

The Secure Driver Network introduces a structured verification process before load pickup, including driver identity checks prior to dispatch, validation of carrier legitimacy within the brokerage workflow, and early detection of high-risk or potentially fraudulent load tenders.

TOP Worldwide said the program is designed to benefit both shippers and carriers. For shippers, it aims to reduce the risk of cargo theft through pre-dispatch verification, improve delivery reliability and provide greater confidence in who is handling freight. For carriers, the initiative is intended to minimize exposure to fraud, reduce operational disruptions tied to identity-related issues, and strengthen trust with brokerage partners and customers.

As supply chains grow more complex, the company emphasized that stronger safeguards are needed at every stage of the shipping process. Driver-level verification is emerging as a critical focus for brokers and logistics providers seeking to prevent fraud, and the Secure Driver Network reflects TOP Worldwide’s effort to combine technology, process and carrier relationships to improve security across its network.
