CINCINNATI -- Portions of Interstate 75 were shut down for several hours Wednesday afternoon near Lockland after an explosive device was found.
The device, described by the village administrator as a pipe bomb, was located around 1 p.m. near Shepherd Avenue and Brown Street.
The interstate was closed until nearly 4 p.m. between Shepherd Avenue and Galbraith Road while emergency crews removed the device and cleared the scene.
Police said an evacuation of the immediate area was canceled, but they didn't immediately release details of what was found.
Earlier, Lockland police Lt. Terrence Wilkerson said an employee of a trucking company called police after he spotted what he suspected was a pipe bomb in a nearby lot.
The Hamilton County bomb squad and other emergency and fire officials went to the scene, the area was evacuated and nearby Lockland schools were dismissed early, police said.
