SRA International, Inc. (NYSE: SRX), a leading provider of information technology (IT) services and solutions to federal government organizations, announced today that it has been awarded a competitive task order by the Department of Defense (DoD) to provide program management support to the DoD Logistics Automatic Identification Technology Office. The task order, awarded under the Chief Information Officer Solutions and Partners 2 Innovations (CIO-SP2i) contract, has an estimated value of $19.2 million over five years if all options are exercised.
Since 1998, SRA has assisted DoD in a services-wide logistics initiative to integrate automatic identification technology (AIT) into military logistics processes. AIT includes a suite of technologies used to improve the timeliness and accuracy of source data collection; reduce logistics processing time; and enhance the ability to identify, track, and control deploying forces and sustainment cargo. Bar coding, Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) Tags, Smart Cards, Contact Memory Buttons, and satellite tracking capability devices are some examples of the AIT technologies now employed in providing asset visibility in real time worldwide. Under this new task order, SRA will provide a broad range of program management services to include resolution of logistics AIT standardization issues; identification of emerging AIT technologies, and evaluation of potential utilization and integration of AIT into processes throughout the defense supply chain.
As a result of its extensive knowledge and expertise in active and passive RFID technology, SRA will also continue to play a leading role in the planning and implementation of the recently published DoD RFID policy. SRA has been instrumental in supporting the Assistant Deputy Under Secretary of Defense for Supply Chain Integration in the RFID policy development that will help integrate RFID into the DoD supply chain. Use of this technology in the supply chain will facilitate the hands-free input of receipt and acceptance data into DoD logistics information systems and will generate automatic transactions of record.
"We are pleased to continue our long-standing relationship with the Defense Logistics Agency," said Charles Perry, SRA Vice President and Director, Defense Business Solutions. "This contract award recognizes our strong capabilities in identifying and implementing a mission-effective and cost-efficient suite of AIT capabilities."
