The Global Security Exchange (GSX) has served as the security industry’s flagship gathering for many years. For director Yvette Freeman, executive producer Richard Ticho, and Resilient Features, it made sense to anchor the world premiere of The WOMEN IN SECURITY Documentary here: a nexus where physical and cyber professionals converge to trade strategies, evaluate new technologies, and hear firsthand from the leaders shaping the sector.

Previously selling out entire theaters for early screenings in Chicago and San Diego, the film officially debuts on the evening of Tuesday the 30th, day two of the conference, in the La Nouvelle A/B Ballroom of New Orleans’ Ernest N. Morial Convention Center. Admission, which is free for all GSX registrants, offers attendees the chance to interact with the stories on screen via a post-film Q&A with the director and select interviewees.

Inside the Documentary

At its core, The WOMEN IN SECURITY Documentary traces the journeys of women who have pushed into boardrooms, command centers, and frontline operations in an industry historically defined and dominated by men.

Freeman captures a spectrum of voices, from rising professionals carving their space in cyber defense to seasoned veterans who helped shape corporate protection strategies decades ago. The film employs candid sit-downs, slices of rare archival footage, and a lean production style to highlight the storied careers of influential women in security, including executives from Amazon, Johnson & Johnson, and even the U.S. Secret Service.

The film’s tagline, “This isn’t just a documentary. It’s a movement,” reflects the team’s desired outcome: for women in the security industry to no longer be an exception, but the norm.

Early Reactions

Anticipation has been building well before GSX. Early screenings in Chicago and San Diego fully sold out, with organizers at GSX hoping the official premiere sparks further conversations throughout the conference.

The ASIS Women in Security Community has already highlighted the film as a potential tool for mentorship and professional development, with several early viewers echoing the sentiment.

The WOMEN IN SECURITY Documentary was more than just a film; it was a moment of community, recognition, and pride,” commented Gina Yacone, CISO at Trace3. “The stories shared were raw, real, and deeply motivating. Hearing how these women broke into all areas of security and persevered through challenges was truly moving.”

“Diversity is not just about gender; it is about how people think, approach, and experience,” said CrisisLead’s Founder and CEO Christopher Stitt. “The documentary did a great job delving into this and exploring the incredible value that diverse teams bring to the profession.”

After the Premiere

The film comes at a critical time for conversation. Workforce shortages persist across the sector, with a lack of new, young hires throwing leadership succession into question for a lot of businesses. The WOMEN IN SECURITY Documentary might be the catalyst this dialogue needs to kick off.

Following GSX, the documentary will continue on the festival circuit to appear at select screenings at several venues, with emphasis on universities (especially those with security-related educational programs). The team invites those interested to get involved and show their support by signing on as Screening Sponsors.

The documentary will also light up U.S. theater screens at ISC² Security Congress 2025 from October 28 to October 30 in Nashville, TN, and at ISC East from November 18 to November 20 in New York, NY.
