SIAC and Public Safety Officials Join Forces
The Financial grants from the Security Industry Alarm Coalition (SIAC) are allowing police officers, fire officials and alarm administrators to attend annual conferences and regional educational workshops organized by the False Alarm Reduction Association (FARA). FARA members are working with industry representatives to maximize the public safety value and proper use of security systems. Among the agencies receiving SIAC grants are: Collier County (FL) Sheriff; Olathe (KS) Police; Barnstable (Hyannis, MA) Police; Calgary (Alberta, Canada) Police; Lee County (FL) Sheriff; Hempstead (FL) Police; Lafayette (LA) Police; and Charlotte-Mecklenburg (NC) Police.
The Tonight Show Goes Up In Smoke
The Tonight Show with Jay Leno funnyman Mitch Fatel recently visited the 19th Annual Police Security Expo at the Atlantic City (NJ) Convention Center, searching for the lighter side of the serious business of public safety. He found a demonstration of the PROTECT SmokeCannon from PROTECT Security Systems of America with the help of Mike Ash of New Jersey-based Garden State Fire and Security. Fatel, a regular comic correspondent, emerged from the smoke-filled demonstration room and gave 7 million United States viewers a visual punch line.
Contest Winner Reaches NEW Heights
Edison Villarroel of Ecuador is the recent winner of the Rokonet contest challenging installers to install the Industrial LuNAR high-ceiling detector in the highest possible ceiling. The prize is $1,000 per meter of installation height. Villarroel installed seven Industrial LuNAR detectors in his customer’s warehouse and won $8,300 for an installation of 8.3m high. Edison works for Laarcom Installation Company in the city of Guayaquil. The prize was awarded during the America’s Security Expo in Miami, FL.

Results of the National Burglar and Fire Alarm Association (NBFAA) Executive Committee elections are: George Gunning, chief executive officer of USA Alarm Systems, Monrovia, CA was named vice president/president-elect; Counte Cooley, president of Electronic Sales Company, Gainesville, GA, was re-elected for a second two-year term as vice president and Mike Miller, vice president and co-owner of Moon Security Services, Inc., Pasco, WA, was re-elected for a second two-year term as treasurer.
Enhanced Call Verification

A New First for CANASA
For the first time, the Canadian Security Association (CANASA) has brought together all major security industry associations to participate in Security Canada Central International Security Conference and Exposition at the Doubletree Int’l Plaza in Toronto. Exposition dates are October 19-20, 2005. A Monitoring Station Symposium will be held on Tuesday, October 18. The security associations who are participating at this event coming under the CANASA umbrella include: American Society for Industrial Security (ASIS), Canadian Fire Alarm Association (CFAA), Canadian Society for Industrial Security Inc. (CSIS), Building Industry Consulting Service International Inc. Dedicated to Racing
The parent company of Dedicated Micros Inc. won at the 73rd 24 Hours of Le Mans race, held in Le Mans, France, in June. AD Group’s MG Lola EX264 race car emerged victorious in the Le Mans Prototype 2 (LMP2) class after a barrage of equipment problems and failures. Mike Newton, CEO of AD Group, and Brazilian Thomas Erdos, the two regular drivers of the MG Lola EX264, were joined by former works MG driver Warren Hughes. AD Group companies AD Aerospace, Dedicated Micros and RemGuard sponsored the race.
A Rejuvenated Monitoring Center
After a two-year renovation period, West Coast-based Crime Alert/Your Monitoring Center, reports a renewed spirit of innovation. The company is implementing several customer-oriented enhancements. For example, Your Monitoring Center (YMC) has recently launched the use of GE Mastermind central station software in conjunction with Mastermind Business, providing new, value-added services for its dealer base.

PSA Conference Plans Underway
With a new name, new dates, new city and new venue, the 2006 PSA- TEC, PSA Security Network’s spring conference and trade show, is poised to offer PSA members and other conference attendees more benefits and training opportunities than ever. The 2006 PSA-TEC, an acronym for Training, Exhibits, and Conference, will be held May 10-13, 2006 at the Pheasant Run Resort & Spa in St. Charles, IL, located 35 minutes from Chicago’s major airports. The exhibits and training will be open not only to PSA members, but to others outside of the PSA network. The conference is preceded by two days of pre-session technical training. Training continues Wednesday through Saturday, May 13 and will be open for all attendees. Sprinkler Business Development Team Launches

Alarm Company Acquisition
Richard Perry, President and CEO of Security Networks LLC, announces the acquisition of Tri-State Alarm Company at a public auction conducted by GE / SAFE Financial. Based in Broomall, PA, Tri-State Alarm Company services more than 13,000 residential customers in Philadelphia and southern New Jersey. Security Networks plans to move all of Tri-State Alarms’ accounts to Marlin Central Monitoring, which it acquired this year. Marlin Central Monitoring is a fully automated redundant UL listed facility with all fiber optics, and several redundant backup utility companies. The central station specializes in leading-edge technology including Dealer/Subscriber Access, Two-Way Voice, Video Monitoring and Video Verification.
Virtually all Tri-State Alarm employees are being retained, including the existing management team. Other than moving the accounts, there will be no other major changes.
