Autonomy to Enhance Knowledge Network Portal for the Development and Promotion of Italy's Agri-Food Industry

CAMBRIDGE, England and SAN FRANCISCO , October 31 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Autonomy Corporation plc (LSE: AU. or AU.L), a global leader in infrastructure software for the enterprise, today announced that the Societa' Parmense per gli Insediamenti Produttivi SpA (SPIP), has selected Autonomy's Intelligent Data Operating Layer (IDOL) as the software infrastructure for the PARMa (Parma Agrifood Research Management) Knowledge Network project (PKN), a global network of leading professionals from academia, industry and the public sector. Funded by the City of Parma and other corporate and public stakeholders, its main aim is to build value for society through the development of cutting-edge research, educational and service activities in the food and agribusiness management area.

SPIP, a not-for-profit company that manages the development of industrial areas within Italy's Parma region, needed a reliable information access solution to automatically aggregate and easily retrieve more than five million documents in Italian and English, from both internal repositories and the web. SPIP will leverage Autonomy's Meaning-based Computing functionalities including Agents, Automatic Query Guidance, Categorisation, Clustering, Hyperlinking, Conceptual Retrieval and Summarisation, to power PKN's "Agri-food portal", enabling collaboration and expertise sharing among researchers, universities and food companies alike, throughout the entire food sector.
