New Trend Micro Internet Security Products Strengthen Personal Information Protection and Deliver Enhanced Performance

Sept. 26, 2007

CUPERTINO, Calif., Sept. 26 /PRNewswire/ -- Trend Micro, Incorporated (TSE: 4704), a leader in network antivirus and Internet content security software and services, today unveiled the 2008 versions of its security products for consumers. Two are updates to the existing 2007 versions: Trend Micro AntiVirus plus AntiSpyware 2008 and Trend Micro Internet Security 2008. Trend Micro Internet Security Pro is new this year. Trend Micro 2008 security products offer consumers powerful protection from cyber criminals by safeguarding multiple attack points, from the operating system to browsers to keyboards.

In these latest releases, Trend Micro focused on core customer needs such as enhanced protection against the latest malware, 30% faster manual scanning than competitive products, easy reporting and more convenient manageability, including a simplified and elegant user interface.

Protection Against the Latest Malware

According to research by TrendLabs(SM), Trend Micro's global network of research, service and support centers, Web threats grew by 540 percent between January 2005 and January 2007 . In order to combat such insidious threats, Trend Micro has enhanced the anti-malware protection available. New and improved functionality also includes proactive intrusion blocking, Web threat protection, enhanced anti-spam capabilities, a two-way firewall and fully integrated antivirus and anti-spyware engines.

TrendLabs is committed to constant threat surveillance and attack prevention. Trend Micro customers benefit from TrendLabs round-the-clock, real-time threat information and research service which delivers effective, timely security measures designed to detect, pre-empt, and eliminate attacks, protecting and informing users as they surf.

Proactive intrusion blocking is a behavior-based technology that protects computers from unauthorized and malicious changes. This new technology boasts non-signature-based, real-time prevention capabilities that dynamically adapt to new and emerging threats. By monitoring application activities on a computer, it is able to prevent malicious changes to a machine, before they can take effect. In addition, the number of alerts is reduced, because the technology can trace changes to their sources instead of reacting to them individually.

Trend Micro Web Threat Protection guards users from the growing number of cyber attacks such as the "Italian Job," through technology that goes beyond traditional URL filtering capabilities and assesses the safety of a Web page based on a number of factors including age, content, behavior and reputation. Consumers will therefore have greater protection without sacrificing the ability to surf the Web, because Web Threat Protection blocks specific pages and content that contain malware, rather than blocking an entire website.

Improved Performance and Installation Trend Micro 2008 products are optimized for performance and convenience. Trend Micro has enhanced the user experience by making the product faster and reducing computer resource consumption. Memory consumption has decreased by approximately 50 percent over last year's products, and manual scanning is more than 30 percent faster than competitive products. Trend Micro has also listened to customer feedback and improved the general user experience. With a simplified installation and setup routine, Trend Micro Internet Security now requires just three steps to complete installation.

Additionally, TrendSecure, introduced last year, is evolving from a resource providing free tools, to a platform that delivers Software-as-a-Service to consumers, with a number of key features available in Trend Micro Internet Security Pro.

"With Trend Micro 2008 products, home users can confidently e-mail, shop, bank, or share photos online, knowing their identities, their privacy and their files are well protected," said Carol Carpenter , vice president of global marketing for Trend Micro consumer business unit. "Our refined user interface makes managing the new threats easy and intuitive. Trend Micro 2008 products have been designed for people who extensively use their computers to conduct various activities online, whether they are at home or away. With this latest release, customers can enjoy all the benefits of the Internet, with peace of mind."
