Security Technology Executive magazine, in coordination with Secured Cities and the Security Industry Association (SIA), are again honoring the most innovative integrated deployments the security industry has to offer.

Calling all end users, systems integrators & solution providers! We're showcasing security's best collaborative projects!

Now taking submissions for Security Technology Executive Magazine's 2014 Annual Security Innovation Awards

Security Technology Executive magazine, in coordination with Secured Cities and the Security Industry Association (SIA), are again honoring the most innovative integrated deployments the security industry has to offer. For the 8 th consecutive year, we invite security, risk and emergency management professionals to showcase their unique project by submitting in the highly competitive Security Innovation Awards, and receive some well-deserved recognition at the Secured Cities Awards Luncheon at the Baltimore Convention Center on November 6, 2014.

The Security Innovation Awards are open to all vendors, integrators, consultants and end-users. This coveted accolade recognizes the most impressive collaborative project highlighting the lead vendors, integrator (or consultant, or engineer) and the end-user client.

This year’s Innovation Awards will feature a new format, as it parallels the focus of our annual Secured Cities event, which showcases peer-to-peer best practices and lessons learned in the areas of security operations, management and technology implementation. In keeping with the Secured Cities theme, project submissions are being sought from the following five public/private partnership sectors:

  • Municipal/Urban Business Districts
  • Campus – K-12 and Colleges & Universities
  • Healthcare Facilities & Campuses
  • Transportation Authorities
  • General Corporate Enterprises?

Our panel of security industry experts will select and honor gold, silver and bronze award winners in the five category sectors. The committee will also select an overall Grand Champion from among the 15 project submissions finalists, who will be featured on the cover of the November/December 2014 issue of Security Technology Executive magazine and will play host to an exclusive webinar presentation featuring its top project. All 15 winners will be invited to accept their awards at the Secured Cities SIA Luncheon in Baltimore this November.

  • For vendors: this contest gives you the opportunity to recognize your most important end-user clients, your talented integrator partners who got the job done, and of course the innovative technologies that made it happen.
  • For integrators consultants and systems engineers: this contest gives you the opportunity to recognize your most important end-user clients, as well as your trusted vendor partners who supplied innovative technologies, along with showcasing your skills.
  • For end-users: it provides an opportunity to showcase your organization and how it places innovative security as a top priority, as well as demonstrate the collaborative nature of your security department with the rest of your organization and outside sources.

  • Our panel of industry experts will select the top projects (gold, silver, and bronze) in each the five vertical market sectors that reflect the focus of the Secured Cities event. A special Grand Champion will be selected from among the 15 submissions and will be featured as the cover story in the Nov/Dec 2014 issue of STE magazine. The Gold winners from the remaining four categories will be featured in this issue as well.
  • The gold, silver and bronze projects, along with their primary participants, will be honored and recognized on stage at the Security Innovation Awards Luncheon at Secured Cities in Baltimore on November 6, 2014.
  • The principal stakeholders of the gold project winners will have an opportunity to outline their success story during an exclusive educational roundtable session at Secured Cities in Baltimore.
  • All 15 winning submissions will be featured in an exclusive interactive digital edition of Security Technology Executive, featuring articles and video interviews of the project participants.
  • The gold medal projects will be featured on the homepage, as well as in the Security Frontline targeted eNewsletters.

Awards Program Guidelines
If you have any questions about the following guidelines, please contact STE editor-in-chief Steve Lasky

Project Submission Criteria

  • Projects can have multiple contributors (manufacturer, integrator, consultant, engineer, and/or security professional), but it is preferred that the “author” of the final project entry be a security representative from the END-USER organization that contracted the project.
  • Have more than one innovative technology deployment? No problem! We accept multiple entries (see fees and deadlines section below).
  • The end-user in all submitted projects MUST be willing have the project featured (including photos) in Security Technology Executive, on stage at the SIA Luncheon at Secured Cities on November 6, as well as during a roundtable discussion of the project at an educational session at the event.
  • Submission packages MUST include a CD or flash drive containing:
    • A Microsoft Word document (no less than 1,600 words — no more than 2,500 words) describing in detail the integrated solution, how the partners on the project worked together, and why it is innovative. This is essentially YOUR case study. It will require comments from the end user and systems integrator.
    • A clear designation of which vertical market the project represents
    • A list of all technology and service vendors, that includes the vendor name and technology represented,
    • A two-slide PowerPoint outlining major project objectives & solutions, and
    • Captioned, high-resolution photos of the facility project, as well as the people involved in making the project successful (300 dpi .jpeg files please). We will need at least one COVER quality image (vertical) featuring the end user and/or systems integrators. Site and facility images are required as well. Please provide at least 4 usable images.

You’ve read the criteria, but what does it take to win? Here’s a good checklist of the qualities that a winning project will possess, along with links to previous winning projects.

Our judges are looking for:

  • Clear evidence of the tight cooperation and work between the vendor(s), integrator(s) and/or consultant(s) and engineers, and the end-user.
  • How an end-user solved a unique security and/or business problem by using one or multiple security technologies.
  • New and/or innovative ways to deploy and use security technology, improve existing systems, or in building a new security infrastructure.
