Revocable Biometric Identification: Enhancing Security and Privacy

Many tout biometrics as the key to reducing identify theft and providing significantly improved security. However, unlike passwords, raw biometric data cannot be changed or revoked if stolen or compromised. Given the ability to "duplicate" a fingerprint from an image, the threat is not just to privacy but also to security. This presentation summarizes work from around the world in the emerging area of revocable or cancelable biometrics.
