SRA subsidiary utilizes MSS surveillance system in Guangzhou and West Indonesia
FAIRFAX, Va. , Feb. 26 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Era Systems Corporation, a subsidiary of SRA International, Inc. (NYSE: SRX), today announced it has been selected to deploy two ADS-B systems in Asia . One system will be deployed by the Air Traffic Management Bureau (ATMB) of Middle-South China in Guangzhou and the other will be deployed by the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) Indonesia in West Indonesia .
Both systems will utilize sensors from Era's industry leading MSS(sm) ADS-B and multilateration surveillance system. The sensors will be used to acquire ADS-B data from all ADS-B equipped aircraft flying in the respective regions. Initially, the data collected will be used to gather operational information, yet both systems are expected to become larger functional systems providing surveillance for air traffic management.
"ANSPs globally are moving away from radar-based surveillance systems to next-generation technologies that are more accurate, provide better coverage and have increased reliability," said Era's Director of the Asia Pacific Region Axel Bensch . "Era is at the forefront of this technological revolution in order to meet today's full fleet coverage needs, while enabling a faster, more cost-effective transition to ADS-B."
Unlike current surveillance techniques, which use ground-based radar, ADS-B equipped aircraft broadcast their positions once per second using global positioning satellite technology. Data is transmitted to dedicated ground receivers as well as other ADS-B equipped aircraft via dedicated radio data links. Air traffic controllers and aircraft immediately see the information on their screens, which includes an aircraft's identification, altitude, speed, velocity and projected path. Era's ground stations are unique in that they provide both ADS-B and multilateration technology in a single ground station.
