FedEx's Fred Smith Calls for Electrification of U.S. Transportation in a Speech to the National Press Club on Feb. 23

WASHINGTON , Feb. 11 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Frederick W. Smith , chairman, president and CEO of FedEx Corp. and co-chairman of the Energy Security Leadership Council, will address a National Press Club Luncheon on February 23rd in a speech titled "Confronting the Energy Threat: Electrification of Transportation as the Path Toward A Stronger Economy and Enhanced National Security."

Mr. Smith, who calls energy security one of the nation's greatest challenges, will discuss the relationship between volatile energy prices and the U.S. economic downturn. He will address a new study that forecasts the long-term economic impact of policies proposed by the council to increase energy security.

As founder of the second-largest U.S. package-shipping company, Mr. Smith was formerly chairman of the board of governors for the International Air Transport Association and the U.S. Air Transport Association. Smith attended Yale University and served as an officer in the U.S. Marine Corps.

The National Press Club luncheon will begin promptly at 12:30 p.m. and Smith's remarks will begin just after 1:00 p.m. , followed by a question-and-answer session.
