Fort Worth Mall to Get Major Medical Office Building

The rebirth of the former North Hills Mall could start in January.
That's when the mall ownership plans to start construction of an 80,000-square-foot medical office building on the parking lot near the former Foley's. North Hills Hospital announced Monday that it had signed a lease for 47,000 square feet of that space.
The project will be known as Citywalk at Calloway Creek.
"It is the first step in things to come, as far as the Citywalk at Calloway Creek project goes," said Laurie Dunlop, the development manager.
The medical office building is expected to open next fall, said Bethe Spurlock, a hospital spokeswoman. The offices will house a senior health center, outpatient-therapy facilities, administrative offices and an ambulatory-surgery center, she said.
The new office space "will give us a lot of room to grow," she said. In addition, the hospital is planning to start this month on a $31.7-million expansion, adding a sixth floor and finishing out the fifth floor.
The mall management is meeting Oct. 24 with physicians who may be interested in leasing, Dunlop said.
The mall is negotiating with other retailers for the rest of the mall, but none is ready to announce, she said.
Plans call for a mixed-use development at Texas 26 and Loop 820 with shops, a hike-and-bike trail, restaurants and a fountain. The area of the North Hills Mall, which closed October 2004, has been slated for redevelopment for years.
More leases are likely to follow soon, North Richland Hills Mayor Oscar Trevino said."The way we see it, we have no reason to believe it won't," he said.
