BALTIMORE -- A new $250 million Biomedical Research Center at Johns Hopkins Bayview campus will house about 1,000 researchers and staff.

The 563,000-square-foot center, covering 12-acres of the Bayview campus, will be home to the intramural research programs of two arms of the National Institutes of Health _ the National Institute on Drug Abuse and the National Institute on Aging.

Construction began earlier this year and is expected to be completed in the fall of 2006, said Meghan Rossbach, a spokeswoman for the Johns Hopkins Bayview Medical Center.

The center is the NIH's biggest construction project in Baltimore.
