Olathe Medical Center, in Olathe, a bedroom community to Kansas City, wants to expand to a 20-acre site on College Boulevard near Kansas 7, where a nine-story hospital may stand one day.
The Olathe City Council on Tuesday approved plans that call for a three-story first phase of clinics and medical office space connected by an atrium. A second phase, which is still without a definite timeframe, would add up to six more stories and a four-story parking garage.
Olathe Medical Center hopes to begin construction on the first phase in the next two years, but specific plans for what the building might hold, who it might serve and how many people might work there are still not set, according to Kate Eller, communications director. Costs are also uncertain because a definitive construction start date has not been established.
