Scotland Readies Security for 2005 G8 Summit

    Study of U.S. security at June G8 Summit in Savannah, Ga., helps country plan $250 million expenditure

    According to a UPI report, Scotland is already underway with its planning of the security for the G8 summit that will be held near Edinburgh in GlenEagles during July of next year.

    According to the report, security will cost an estimated $250 million and 9,000 police officers will be employed in the process of protecting this meeting of world leaders.

    In June of this year, Scottish officials visited Savannah, Ga., to study security at the U.S.-hosted event, which involved machine gun posts, trained divers, high-tech camera systems and perimeter security fences, checkpoints, barriers and more.

    Massive protests are expected. According to the UPI report, 50,000 protesters wrangled with police at the 2003 summit, held in Evian, France.
