NEW YORK -- Privately held OCS Security, one of New York City's largest security and protection firms, announced that Mr. Michael McCann, recently retired United Nations Chief of Security, has joined the firm as head of the newly formed Executive Protection and Technical Services Division. His new responsibilities will include executive protection for VIPS, Diplomats, CEO's, celebrities, and other high profile individuals. The Technical Service Division will focus on technical surveillance counter measures, surveillance detection, threat analysis and evacuation.
In his eleven years at the United Nations, Mr. McCann was responsible for the protection of delegates, staff, visiting dignitaries and other visitors at the United Nations Headquarters and at international conferences and meetings organized by the United Nations in Africa, Europe, Asia and Latin and South America. He provided strategic and executive of direction for UN security operations, including emergency preparedness and crisis management plans, the development of common security standards and practices for UN offices worldwide. He was also responsible for the personal security and safety of the Secretary-General and other senior UN officials worldwide. He regularly consulted with senior officials of city, state, federal, and international law enforcement agencies on policy and operational issues.
Mr. McCann enjoyed a 26 year career in various senior ranked positions in the New York City Police Department, including Commander of the Intelligence Divisions Dignitary Protection Unit, which is responsible for national and international officials visiting New York City. He also was the Commanding Officer of the 25th Police Precinct, located in East Harlem, New York.
Mr. McCann received a BS degree in criminal justice from John Jay College of Criminal Justice and a Juris Doctorate from New York Law School in 1981. He is associated with a number of professional organizations including The International Association of Chiefs of Police (IACP), the International Security Management Association (ISMA), the New York State Bar Association, the National Law Enforcement Association (NLEA), American Academy for Professional Law Enforcement (A.A.P.L.E.), American Society Industrial Security (ASIS) and the NYPD Captains Endowment Association.
