SecurityInfoWatch.com Announces Winner of iPod Give-Away

Sept. 19, 2005
ASIS 2005 attendees were invited to sign up for weekly news updates, entered to win an iPod Shuffle

While at ASIS 2005 in booth 4367 (behind the wall in the "other" part of the tradeshow floor, SecurityInfoWatch.com held its iPod giveaway. Show attendees were invited to sign up for the site's weekly e-newsletters (sign up here); in doing so they were automatically entered to win an Apple iPod Shuffle, an ingenious little Flash-memory based MP3 player that holds up to about 240 songs and is the size of a pack of gum.

When we drew the lucky winner, it was Robin C. Brown, the director of electronic security and access control at the University of Colorado at Denver and Health Sciences Center.

"I direct the physical security efforts at three campuses," explains Brown, who holds the CFI, CIPM, CPP and PSP designations. "My department works with the University Police Department to enforce alarm response, etc. My primary role is to design the security systems for each of the new buildings for our five medical schools, research laboratories and animal facilities. The latter aspect is the most challenging because it requires constant 'selling' of security principles to architects, the university Chancellery and engineers."

With a background that includes a term as an Air Force pilot during the Vietnam period, plus 23 years as a Supervisory Special Agent with the FBI, and years managing security in corporate and government environments, Brown has been a long-term player in the security industry.

"I also have a side business conducting select investigations and security consulting," Brown notes. "I am a SWAT medic, a police instructor, a fire inspector, OSHA instructor, Certified Institutional Protection Manager (CIPM), Certified Protection Professional (CPP) and a Physical Security Professional (PSP). As the chair of the certification committee for the local ASIS chapter, I am under some pressure to get all of the certifications I teach for the chapter."

Robin said that the 2005 ASIS show fulfilled his expectations, adding that it had "an even better selection of industry leaders and new products."
