Rikers Island Upgrades Security with Installation of JVC Professional VideoO Surveillance System
ORLANDO, FL -- JVC Professional Products Company announced the successful installation of 33 of its VN-C11U IP network cameras and three VR-N100U network video recorders with 18 terabytes of attached storage at Rikers Island Visitor Center. This installation is the first phase of an upgrade to the New York City Department of Correction’s (DOC) 10-jail facilities on Rikers Island.
Rikers Island turned to JVC to update its current analog system to a state-of-the-art digital solution. This cost-effective solution enables the DOC to monitor all inmate and personnel activity within the Visitor Center as well as the cashier booth where friends and relatives drop off money for inmates. In addition, Rikers chose JVC because they needed a Linux-based embedded operating system. This type of operating system doesn’t require a hard drive to boot up, which increases overall reliability and allows video to record even if a hard drive fails.
“Rikers chose JVC because we offer a complete IP security solution that is extremely reliable and flexible,†said Chris Zenaty, Project Sales Manager of JVC PROFESSIONAL PRODUCTS COMPANY. “We’re positive they will be as pleased as the Jacksonville Seaport was with our work implementing the first-ever large-scale, totally wireless IP-network monitoring and surveillance installation.â€
Prior to using JVC’s digital surveillance solution Rikers Island used VHS tapes, which had to be replaced everyday. The VN-C11U cameras in combination with the VR-N100 network video recorders with an 18-terabyte storage enables the DOC to store a vast amount of video data as well as access individual camera data immediately from any computer.
Approximately 11 cameras will be connected to each VR-N100. Each camera attached to the VR-N100U can be custom programmed with recording options based on priority, individual frame rate, resolution, motion detection and more.
JVC’s VR-N100U is the centerpiece in a complete line of digital/IP products that include fixed, pan/tilt and dome cameras, encoders, recorders and software.
