Although the machines have already been pulled from U.S. airports, the results of a report commissioned by the American Association of Physicists in Medicine (AAPM) has found that the amount of radiation exposure people receive from body scanners that use backscatter technology is negligible. The report even went as far to say that people absorb less radiation from the imaging machines than they do standing in line waiting to be scanned.
