Company designs intelligent smoke detector

Oct. 10, 2013

Nest Labs Inc., a California-based high-tech startup, recently announced that it has developed a smart smoke detector dubbed "Nest Protect." The device, which will retail for $129, will be able to detect heat, smoke, carbon monoxide, light and motion. And rather than just simply emitting an audible alarm, the detector will provide warnings in spoken words, giving occupants a chance to determine the validity of the alert.
