Hikvision, Dahua won’t be exhibiting at ISC West 2023

This is another blow to the two mega-PRC companies that are already struggling with U.S. government sanctions.

Hikvision and Dahua won’t be exhibiting their products at ISC West 2023, which is another blow to the two mega-PRC companies that are already struggling with U.S. government sanctions.

IPVM originally reported that the two companies wouldn’t be at North America’s largest physical security event, stating the Security Industry Association (SIA) had barred their participation.

SIA adopted a code of ethics for its members two years ago, and any exhibitor at SIA events must share the same commitment to “this baseline for ethical behavior and exceed these principles in practice, SIA says.

“Exhibitors at SIA events are SIA members who have indicated they will abide by the code. Dahua and Hikvision are not SIA members or exhibitors at SIA events,” the association says in its statement, which was provided to SecurityInfoWatch.

The decision sits in contrast to ASIS International, which welcomed Dahua and Hikvision to GSX last year.

In 2021, SIA expelled Dahua from the association’s member ranks over ethics code violations. A few weeks later, Hikvision resigned from SIA as it was facing expulsion over ethics code violations, IPVM says.

Dahua confirmed to IPVM that the company wouldn’t be exhibiting and painted it as an internal business consideration. But the company would not elaborate once IPVM shared SIA’s statement with them. Hikvision did not respond to IPVM’s requests for comment.

It may be possible Hikvision or Dahua salespeople could attend and walk the show floor to talk to customers or partners, or hold events off site, although IPVM notes that wouldn’t be as impactful as being an exhibitor. This lack of presence for the two companies on the show floor could also push Hikvision and Dahua dealers to consider competitors, IPVM’s article says.
