ASIS Preview for Integrators

Aug. 5, 2014
Specialized educational track highlights upcoming Atlanta conference & expo

Systems integrators and security practitioners from all areas will be among the anticipated 20,000-plus registrants who will convene at the ASIS International (ASIS) 60th Annual Seminar and Exhibits (ASIS 2014) this fall in Atlanta, according to the group.

ASIS 2014 and the colocated (ISC)² Security Congress 2014 will take place Sept. 29-Oct. 2 at the Georgia World Congress Center. The four-day event offers more than 200 education sessions in 23 different tracks spanning traditional security, systems integrator-related programs and IT security. Security practitioners who are responsible for protecting their organization’s human, cyber or physical assets attend the event to learn about best practices in the industry, network, identify trends in technology, connect with their peers and see the latest in traditional and IT security products and services in the exhibit hall.

Education Opportunities for Integrators

Among the topics of interest to system integrators will be video surveillance and the staggering number of choices facing end-users, revolutionizing the alarm company to police dispatch process with ASAP, and results of new ASIS research on metrics, which led to the development of a measurement tool for the profession. In all, there will be nine educational sessions as part of the “Systems Integrator” track at the event.

One of the sessions focuses exclusively on a new breed of integrator that is emerging to address both small- and large-scale projects — entitled “The Integrator of the Future,” this session will identify the largest growth markets for integration professionals. It is scheduled for 11 a.m. on Sept. 29.

Other sessions cover urgent issues facing the global security community such as cyber fraud, aviation security, drones, workplace violence and the safety of our food supply. Attendees will learn how security professionals can leverage the rich data source that is emerging with the use of social media, how to maximize the intelligence collected during alarms and emergencies, and what three critical issues are facing retail leaders today. General Sessions and Keynotes

A panel of experts from (ISC)² will kick off a trio of general sessions on Oct. 2 with “Exploring Security Solutions.” The discussion will highlight key cyber-related issues confronting security today. A “Perspectives on Security” session will focus on the top 10 Foreign Corrupt Practices Act enforcement actions, and the final general session is a Security Insights Program, “An Insider’s Look at China,” presented by a New Yorker magazine correspondent who was based in Beijing from 2005 to 2013.

The ASIS 2014 Closing Luncheon will feature Scott Moore, United States Navy SEAL Rear Admiral (ret.), who will share his perspectives on what it takes to both create and lead the world’s most high-performing teams. Keynote speakers include former Secretary of State General Colin L. Powell, USA (Ret.) and Jon Huntsman, Jr., former governor of Utah and candidate for 2012 presidential nomination.

More than 600 exhibitors will be on hand to display thousands of cutting-edge technologies and other products and services. Visit www.securityexpo.org for complete registration and housing details, as well as the most up-to-date information on ASIS 2014.
