Global GRAB Technologies has acquired Barrier1 Systems from Valesco Industries, expanding its portfolio of crash-rated vehicle barriers and adding engineering and U.S. manufacturing capabilities.

Gladstone Investment announced Sept. 16 that it provided additional capital to support the acquisition. Financial terms were not disclosed in the announcements. Cascadia Capital served as exclusive financial adviser to Barrier1 on the sale.

Founded in 2006 and headquartered in Greensboro, North Carolina, Barrier1 manufactures anti-ram vehicle barrier systems, including crash-rated bollards, drop and swing arms, wedge barriers, crash beams and vehicle arrestor nets. Its products serve government and commercial customers protecting facilities such as military installations, airports, data centers and entertainment venues.

“Barrier1 is a great strategic fit with Global GRAB and meaningfully expands both our product portfolio and manufacturing capabilities,” said Mark Horne, CEO of Global GRAB.

Headquartered in Franklin, Tennessee, Global GRAB provides physical perimeter security and hostile vehicle mitigation solutions. The Barrier1 transaction follows its acquisition of substantially all the assets of RSSI Barriers, a provider of electric crash-rated barriers and gate automation solutions. Gladstone announced financing support for that transaction in July.

According to Gladstone, the combined businesses offer vehicle barriers, detection systems and integrated access control products, along with engineering, installation and ongoing support services.

Valesco acquired a majority stake in Barrier1 in November 2020. In Cascadia’s announcement, Barrier1 President Jamie Parsons said joining Global GRAB would allow Barrier1 to bring its capabilities to a broader platform with greater reach.
