Security teams may soon move away from the traditional “flashlight” approach associated with Electronically Scanned Arrays radars, following the release of a new system from Spotter Global.
The company announced the launch of the GAX500-3D, described as the world’s first Compact Holographic 3D radar. The system is designed to function more like a floodlight, maintaining 100 percent time-on-target rather than scanning intermittently.
According to the company, the GAX500-3D operates at 18 Hz and updates all targets within its 90° by 90° field of view every 56 milliseconds. This update rate is said to be 32 times faster than the nearest alternative.
The company contrasted the new radar with legacy Electronically Scanned Arrays systems, which it said experience a 1.8-second “blink” during scans. By comparison, the new technology continuously maintains visibility, enabling it to track up to 50 simultaneous threats within milliseconds and limiting opportunities for drone swarms to avoid detection.
The release marks Spotter Global’s introduction of compact holographic radar technology aimed at enhancing continuous threat awareness along security perimeters.
