Airport will install Reveal CT-80 Explosive Detection System

GULFPORT, Miss. -- The Gulfport-Biloxi International Airport has been selected as one of three airports nationwide to test new equipment to detect explosives in baggage.

The airport will install the Reveal CT-80 Explosive Detection System, made by Reveal Imaging Technologies of Bedford, Mass.

The device, smaller than other detection systems now in use, was certified by the Transportation Security Administration in December. The airport, along with John F. Kennedy International Airport in New York and the airport in Newark, N.J., will test the technology for the TSA and Department of Homeland Security.

This is the second time Gulfport-Biloxi has been selected to try a new technology for homeland security.

In September 2004, the airport was one of five nationwide that tested a walkthrough detection machine. The device, which releases a puff of air that is tested in a sensor that can "sniff" for certain explosives, is now a permanent explosive detection measure.
