Technology giant Google announced earlier this week to web news source Android Police that it is discontinuing the Nest Secure DIY security system that was launched in 2017.
“Google Nest will no longer be producing Nest Secure; however, we will continue to support our security users in all the same ways,” a Google spokesperson told SecurityInfoWatch. “Our existing users will not see a change in their service.”
We further asked the spokesperson if this move was made specifically because of any ongoing collaborative technology projects that Google is now working on with ADT – resulting from Google’s $450M acquisition of 6.6% of ADT in August. The spokesperson declined to comment.
Shortly after the Google+ADT announcement, ADT unveiled an expanded product lineup for Blue by ADT, the company’s DIY smart home security brand that offers security and smart home products coupled with ADT’s professional monitoring capabilities.
The Blue by ADT DIY solution includes a smart home hub with integrated keypad, indoor, outdoor and doorbell cameras, door and window sensors, motion sensor, and a combination flood and temperature sensor. By contrast, Nest Secure was a DIY combination of alarm, keypad and door/window sensors.
ADT also declined to comment on the Google news.
