Nuki Introduces Aliro-Certified Keypad 2 NFC to Bring Tap-to-Unlock Convenience to Residential Access

Nuki’s Keypad 2 NFC enables secure tap-to-unlock access at the front door using smartphones, wearables, fingerprints, or access codes.
Nuki has launched its Keypad 2 NFC, positioning the device as the world’s first Aliro-certified keypad for residential electronic door locks and extending the convenience of contactless technology from everyday payments to home access.
Across the United States, contactless interactions have become routine, from retail purchases to transit entry and event access. Powered by Near Field Communication, this technology enables secure, encrypted data exchange within a short range. Nuki’s latest release applies the same principles to residential entry, allowing users to unlock their doors with a simple tap of a smartphone or smartwatch.
According to the company, the Keypad 2 NFC brings the familiarity of Tap-to-Pay experiences directly to the home. The device works in conjunction with a Matter-capable Nuki Smart Lock and supports digital credentials such as Apple Home Key and Samsung Digital Home Key, along with Aliro-compatible credentials stored in a digital wallet. Users also need a compatible mobile device and a Matter-enabled hub from their chosen ecosystem provider.
Nuki emphasized ease of adoption, noting that its Smart Lock and keypad are separate products. This allows existing users to upgrade by pairing their lock with the new keypad without complex installation. The system is designed to enable Tap-to-Unlock functionality within minutes.
In addition to wallet-based access, the Keypad 2 NFC includes a Nuki App mode that enables tap-based unlocking independent of Matter, Aliro, or digital wallet platforms. This option is available to users with a Nuki Smart Lock and an NFC-enabled smartphone, eliminating the need for an additional hub and expanding compatibility across platforms.
The device supports five access methods: Apple Home Key, Samsung Digital Home Key, tap-to-unlock via the Nuki App, fingerprint recognition, and personalized access codes. It can store up to 20 fingerprints, 35 tap-based keys, and 200 access codes.
Security remains a central focus, with all entry methods protected by end-to-end encryption. Nuki stated that it uses encryption standards comparable to those used in payment systems. Access data is stored locally, while cloud functionality remains optional.
Installation is designed to be straightforward, with mounting completed in minutes using adhesive strips or screws and no wiring required. The keypad is manufactured in Europe and meets IP54 standards for protection against dust and moisture. Its energy-efficient design, enabled by the separation of the keypad and smart lock, supports at least twelve months of operation.
The launch also reflects broader developments in smart home interoperability. Matter, developed by the Connectivity Standards Alliance with contributions from major technology companies, enables cross-platform device integration. The introduction of Aliro as a dedicated smart access standard expands these capabilities to secure communication between locks and mobile devices.
Nuki stated that the Keypad 2 NFC is among the first products designed to support this emerging ecosystem in the U.S., including compatibility with platforms such as Samsung SmartThings.
The Nuki Keypad 2 NFC is available immediately through the company’s online shop and Amazon, with a retail price of $179.
