Suspect allegedly became irritated waiting on a ride after party, pointed gun at fraternity member

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. --

Indiana University police arrested a man early Sunday after shots were fired at a fraternity house following a party.

Investigators said Jeffery Durbin, 19, of Kokomo, was waiting on a ride after a Halloween party in the 1400 block of North Jordan Street in Bloomington.

Just before 3 a.m., witnesses said Durbin became irritated while waiting on a ride, pulled out a gun and pointed it at a fraternity member.

The fraternity member said he heard shots fired outside the house, which prompted him to call IUPD.

When IU officers arrived, they found Durbin knocking on the door of a nearby sorority house.

Witnesses at the fraternity party identified Durbin, and he was taken into custody.

IU Student Kenny Ecker said he was sleeping when the sound of the shots woke him up, RTV6's Myrt Price reported.

"I heard about eight blasts that sounded like gunshots go off right outside the door where I was sleeping," Ecker said. "It was loud enough to wake me up."

IUPD Chief Keith Cash said Durbin is not an IU student and he faces felony charges of intimidation, criminal recklessness, pointing a firearm, and a misdemeanor charge of carrying a handgun without a license.

IUPD said the incident remains under investigation and have asked witnesses to contact them at 812-855-4111.
