My Point of View: Something Old, Something New for 2020

March 9, 2020

The goal of most media platforms, whether they be print or digital, is to serve the industry they represent and the audience they engage in. For the past 30 years here at Security Technology Executive magazine, that has been our mission. We’ve done it primarily with timely and informative content directed at myriad vertical market security and risk end-users, along with our facility management, systems integrator, consultant and A&E readers. But establishing a foothold in our industry as a trusted information resource goes beyond the print or web page. For us, it has been targeted events and industry awards that have inspired peer interaction and recognition.

STE has sponsored several well-received security events over years including our successful Secured Cities series and the GSO 2020 events done in conjunction with our longtime expert columnist and nationally renowned consultant Ray Bernard. And for 15 years STE, Security Business and SecurityInfoWatch.com presented the Security Innovation Awards, recognizing the top projects of the year until its hiatus in 2016.

So, for 2020, we at SecurityInfoWatch Media group have relaunched our top projects awards program as we introduce a new concept designed to give the entire security ecosystem the recognition it deserves: The Security Vanguard Awards.

Working with Security Business editor-in-chief Paul Rothman, we are now taking submissions for the Vanguard Awards, which has already been endorsed and is sponsored by the Security Industry Association (SIA), and is 100% free to anyone in the security ecosystem, including integrators, end-users, consultants, engineers, and yes, even manufacturers. Not only will this program forever be cost-free, but the submission process will also be easy, and it takes five minutes or less. Simply tell us (via web-based submission the name and location of the project, all the stakeholders involved (vendors, integrators, consultants, etc.), and a paragraph or two as to why this particular project is innovative or special, and/or the impact it had on your business.

The major stakeholders for each of those projects will be honored formally in front of their peers at Securing New Ground and be invited to participate in a special panel discussion at the October 2020 event. Not only will the top projects be chosen, but several honorable mention projects will also be selected for each platform. We will be looking for enterprise-level collaborative security projects that exemplify the best working partnerships among security solutions providers, security systems integrators and the end-user clients they serve. The winning project will be featured in cover stories in both STE and Security Business later this year. Our other big news is the launch of the SecuraCann Conference, the security industry’s first cannabis business event to be held on October 21, 2020, at the DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel in San Jose, Calif. Bringing together shared best practices from like-minded and entrepreneurial solution providers, dispensaries, cultivators and others affiliated with the cannabis industry, this specialized one-day conference will deliver critical information regarding risk mitigation, security strategies, and security solutions for grow and dispensary operations, from facilities to financial transactions and product transport. The event will offer a focused look at security and risk issues and solutions, providing an opportunity for an educated decision-making process related to technology, policy and procedure, operations and more. The event attendees shall include those involved in the growing cannabis industry and those in the security industry that are interested in expanding their solutions and services into this multi-billion dollar landscape.

Tabletop exhibit and sponsorship opportunities are available. Special registration rates will be available for growers and students. Space is limited. Visit www.securacann.com for more information.
