The Security Industry Association (SIA) has announced the formation of a new Retail Security Advisory Board and opened a call for member volunteers to join the group.

The expert-led board will advise the association and its Board of Directors on key retail security topics, work to expand SIA’s influence and expertise in the sector and advance learning opportunities for members.

Planned initiatives for the advisory board include:

  • Developing retail security resources and best practices
  • Fostering collaboration between suppliers and retail security practitioners
  • Providing end-user feedback on emerging technologies and related education and use cases
  • Supporting interoperability and the development of open security standards
  • Creating webinars, white papers, fact sheets and conference content
  • Partnering with key retail and security stakeholders

The board will be chaired by Mike Dunn of Wachter, with Brit Hehn of Gap serving as vice chair.

Dunn, who leads strategic innovation and business development at Wachter, brings more than 20 years of experience in computer technology, networking, IP video and access control. He previously served as chief technology officer at Prosegur and has focused his career on developing customized, open-platform technology solutions for clients.

“This new advisory board provides a vital platform to unite retailers, integrators and technology providers around common goals,” Dunn said. “By fostering collaboration across the retail and security industries, we can advance best practices, explore emerging technologies and build partnerships with leading retail organizations that will help us create lasting impact for retailers everywhere.”

Hehn, asset protection director for stores protection in the West Zone at Gap, supports 750 stores across the Old Navy, Gap, Banana Republic and Athleta brands and serves as the asset protection brand leader for Athleta. With more than two decades at Gap, she has led technology, budget, reporting and field operations initiatives, including overseeing Old Navy’s asset protection efforts during the brand’s expansion into Mexico in 2015.

SIA is seeking members and industry leaders to participate in the advisory board, including retail members of its SPARC community, loss prevention and asset protection professionals, security technology manufacturers and integrators, video surveillance and analytics providers, access control and RFID solution companies, and retail operations and facility managers.
