Secure Building Council, ADRM Partner to Advance SHIELD Certification Program

The SHIELD Certification Program framework evaluates building security across four pillars, delivering tiered certifications that reflect increasing levels of integrated protection.
The Secure Building Council (SBC) announced a strategic partnership with Advanced Data Risk Management (ADRM) to support the advancement and implementation of the SHIELD Certification Program.
Through the collaboration, SBC and ADRM will work together to develop and enable tools, methodologies and processes aimed at improving how building security is evaluated and managed. The effort is focused on strengthening the SHIELD Certification Program, a framework created by SBC to help building owners demonstrate compliance with security industry best practices across the design, construction and maintenance of their properties.
The SHIELD Certification Program evaluates buildings across four pillars: physical security, technology and systems, operations and procedures and governance and compliance. Certifications are awarded at three tiers — Essential, Advanced and Elite — each representing progressively higher standards of integrated security.
As part of the partnership, the organizations will also explore ways to enhance SHIELD Assessments, which are field evaluations used to determine a building’s certification level. The goal is to improve consistency, scalability and efficiency across a range of building types.
“This partnership represents an exciting step forward in advancing how we bring SHIELD to the market,” said Derek Ommert, executive director of the Secure Building Council. “ADRM brings deep expertise in both security consulting and technology, and we are excited to collaborate on shaping the future of security assessments and certification.”
ADRM’s background in risk and vulnerability assessments, along with its technology capabilities, was highlighted as a key factor in supporting SBC’s mission to make security more accessible, measurable and actionable across the built environment.
“We are pleased to partner with the SBC team to support their vision of bringing professional security certification to the building and construction community,” said Dan O’Neill, president of Advanced Data Risk Management. “We look forward to working together to enhance how security is assessed and operationalized across the built environment.”
The partnership was announced during ISC West 2026 in Las Vegas, Nevada.
