New Anti-Surge Device from Sola Protects CCTV Cameras

In-line coax surge protection devices offer analog camera protection against lightning, electrical surges

ROSEMONT, IL, April 25, 2007 Sola/Hevi-Duty, a global leader in power quality innovation, is targeting the video surveillance industry with the STC-CCTV, a new single-channel in-line coax surge protection device that protects analog CCTV cameras from lightning strikes and electrical surges.

"A typical CCTV system has dozens of cameras networked together so that when one camera gets a surge of electricity, the current will flow through all the connected components, including the other cameras, recorders and control equipment," said Mike Johnson, Director of Marketing, Sola/Hevi-Duty. "STC-CCTV devices stop the surge before it travels through the network and puts an entire security system in jeopardy."

Designed in accordance with NFPA 780 with up to 20kA of surge current capability, the STC-CCTV provides superior protection by implementing a three-stage hybrid technology. Overvoltage transients are addressed with a primary gas discharge tube (GDT), and secondary silicon avalanche diode (SAD) components. Overcurrent protection, such as sneak or fault currents, is mitigated with solid-state resetable fuses PTCs.

Installing in minutes using standard BNC connectors at the input and output, STC-CCTV devices can be used and the camera end or head end.
