Police, bank successfully used surveillance images via local media publicity
Dec. 15, 2007

Syracuse police say tips from citizens, aided by a bank surveillance camera, helped to lead authorities Wednesday to a suspect in a bank robbery two days before.

John Mulligan, 53, of 202 Hier Ave., Syracuse, was charged with third-degree robbery, a felony, in the holdup Monday morning at Alliance Bank, 1001 James St., Sgt. Tom Connellan said.

Several people helped police to identify the suspect after they saw images from a bank camera in the media, police said.

The robber handed a teller a note demanding money and threatening to shoot her if she did not comply, police said. After getting the money, he left without showing a weapon.

Connellan said Mulligan admitted he spent the money from the robbery.
