Georgia town puts eyes on its streets

Town of Duluth adds HD cameras for municipal video surveillance
Feb. 7, 2012

Duluth, Ga., now has extra eyes on the street, but those eyes don't come with a uniform. Iron Sky, an Atlanta-based systems integrator, has delivered a video surveillance solution that links the suburban Atlanta town's downtown cameras with computer-aided dispatch (CAD) data and existing cameras at key government buildings.

The integrator provided a browser-based interface that allows police to remotely access the video system, even from patrol vehicles. The cameras are high definition (HD) PTZs located at a park, in the downtown area and along a main thoroughfare.

"Over the years, we have introduced several programs to keep our residents safe," said Duluth Police Chief R.D. Belcher. "This surveillance system adds another important crime-fighting tool."

According to Iron Sky general manager, the next step for the project "is to apply advanced video analytics to address specific issues in the area." The firm already provides video solutions for College Park, Conyers, Decatur, Hapeville, Lilburn, Midtown Atlanta, Norcross, Sandy Springs and the Westside Village of Atlanta.
