211A network camera offers high-resolution, and both video and two-way audio over IP

Axis Communications has launched a professional network camera that integrates high-resolution video and two-way audio over IP networks. The AXIS 211A Network Camera is suitable for surveillance and remote monitoring applications that require the ability to see and hear events and communicate with visitors or intruders in real time. It is an ideal choice for securing offices, stores, and facilities such as schools, warehouses, campuses and prisons.

The AXIS 211A contains a built-in microphone and can be connected to external speakers. It also utilizes simultaneous Motion JPEG and MPEG-4 video streams to optimize image quality and bandwidth efficiency. Its built-in support for Power over Ethernet (PoE) enables power, video and audio to all be delivered through the same network cable, thereby decreasing installation costs.

"With the launch of the AXIS 211A, Axis is filling a need for high-end surveillance and remote monitoring applications," said Fredrik Nilsson, general manager of Axis Communications. "Previously, two-way audio was only available through external audio modules, and now Axis is now integrating that same functionality into its network camera line."

The AXIS 211A is suitable for both indoor and outdoor lighting conditions. It has a varifocal DC-iris lens and uses a progressive scan CCD image sensor that enables moving images to be presented without distortion. The AXIS 211A supports up to 30 frames per second at all resolutions. It also provides video motion detection, pre- and post-alarm buffers, several notification options, privacy masking, and inputs/outputs for connecting external devices such as door sensors and relays to activate light or close doors.

The AXIS 211A Network Camera will be available through Axis' distribution channels in February 2005. The manufacturer's suggested retail price is $899.
