SUNNYVALE, Calif. -- OmniVision Technologies, Inc., the world's leading supplier of CMOS image sensors, announced today that, with eight major design wins to date, its recently launched OV7940 advanced CMOS image sensor has already gained strong market acceptance from CCTV/video monitoring security systems makers. The cost efficient, highly integrated true single chip OV7940 CMOS video camera combines a high level of functionality with excellent low light performance, enabling it to compete head-to-head in the CCD dominated segment of the security surveillance market.
According to a report from market research firm Techno Systems Research (TSR), the security surveillance camera market is a solidly growing market for both CMOS and CCD cameras with an expected compound annual growth rate of over 16% through 2008. This year alone, CCTV camera chip shipments are expected to reach 7.9 million CMOS and 18.3 million CCD units and future growth may increase dramatically in response to increasing public safety and security concerns. The TSR report also indicates that CMOS sensors are starting to penetrate into the CCD segment of this market which confirms the strong new market potential for the OV7940.
"OmniVision's legacy OV5116, OV6910, OV7910 and OV7930 families of single chip PAL/NTSC cameras enjoy a 90 percent market share in the CMOS CCTV camera market segment, according to TSR's CMOS Area Sensor Market report published in April 2005," said Hasan Gadjali, Vice President of the Advanced Product business unit at OmniVision Technologies. "Now, with the OV7940, both new and existing customers can expand their businesses by competing in the 20 million-unit CCD security surveillance market."
The OV7940 image sensor is ideal for applications requiring a high performance video camera with a small footprint, low voltage and low power consumption. It supports NTSC/PAL composite video output and can directly interface with a VCR TV monitor or other device with 75 Ohm loading. The OV7940's single chip solution simplifies manufacturing for its users.
The OV7940 comes in both 48-pin CLCC package and QFP package.
