Russia to Use Video Cameras to Monitor Georgian Border
Cherkessk -- Traditional means of guarding steep glacial mountainous border areas of Karachay-Cherkessia adjoining Georgia have been boosted with video surveillance systems.
It is also planned to place a number of parts of the Chechen, Ingush and Dagestani sections of the Russian-Georgian state border under video surveillance, the chief of the press service of the North Caucasus regional border guard troops directorate of the Russian Federation Federal Security Service, Lt-Col Sergey Livantsov, told an ITAR-TASS correspondent.
The border guard troops are not publicizing where exactly the video cameras are being installed. It is merely being said that particularly inaccessible rocky slopes which, because of the difficulty of the terrain, have hitherto been monitored only by flights by border guard troops aircraft and ground patrols by search and reconnaissance border detachments equipped with specialist alpine gear, are being placed under constant video surveillance.
