To help enhance the safety and security of staff and students at Elgin High School in Elgin, Texas, ADT Security Services Inc., a unit of Tyco Fire & Security, has donated a digital video surveillance and recording system to the 950-student public campus.
Patrick Fiel, ADT's school security expert who is overseeing the project and part of the company's overall education solutions initiative, said Elgin's video surveillance system will show how electronic security technologies can assist school administrators in creating positive learning environments.
"Children learn best in an environment where they feel safe and secure," said Fiel, who previously oversaw security for the Washington, D.C. Public School System. "ADT is installing a video system that should greatly enhance the efforts Elgin administrators are making to keep their campus safe."
The donated equipment will include 22 high-resolution day/night cameras installed throughout the school and a digital video management system that will provide video-based motion detection, object search and digital video enhancement. An observation video monitor placed in the front office will display a tour of selected camera views. A second video monitor will allow school administrators to independently assess activities in real time and to investigate incidents.
ADT's sales and service office in Austin, Texas, one of more than 200 ADT offices located across the country, will provide installation services. Joining ADT in this project are technology companies San Diego-based American Dynamics, a Tyco Safety Products company, and Integral Technologies of Indianapolis. Work on the system installation is underway and is expected to be completed later this month.
