NAGOYA -- Tietech Co., a Nagoya-based high-tech product maker, said Monday it has developed a digital video recording device able to be installed on U.S. police cars to expedite criminal investigations.
The recording equipment will take high-quality video of subjects under investigation, whether they are moving in front of, or behind, a police car. The video is stored in the device's detachable hard disk, it said.
The device also enables a police car to record its precise whereabouts via connectivity with a ground positioning system, the company said.
Tietech will market the device, which has already been used by some police stations in the state of Kansas, across the United States, it said.
It said a U.S. security device-related firm commissioned it to develop the device.
About 40 percent of U.S. police cars are equipped with video recording devices, but the quality of much of the video taken by them has not been clear enough due to their analog technology, it said.
The minimum price of Tietech's digital video recording equipment is 300,000 yen per unit, it said.
