Wavelynx Reshapes Leadership, Launches APEX Reader
Wavelynx announced a leadership transition and the launch of its new APEX Reader this week, moves that industry analyst Lee Odess says signal the company’s entry into a new stage of growth. In a post on LinkedIn, Odess characterized the developments as both “natural and positive,” calling them a “mature” step for the access control manufacturer.
Since being acquired by private equity firm Triton in 2023, Wavelynx has been intentional about building out its executive team, now composed of 10 leaders — seven of whom were added in the past 18 months. As part of that evolution, the company has initiated a search for a new CEO while current leaders Hugo Wendling and Robert Lydic adjust their roles.
Leadership evolution under Triton’s backing
“This is a natural and planned evolution for Wavelynx,” Wendling told Odess, CEO of The Access Control Collective (TACC). “We are proud of the incredible team we’ve built and the partnerships we’ve established, and we believe this step strengthens our ability to accelerate innovation and deliver greater value to our customers.”
According to Odess, Wendling will remain focused on product and market innovation while keeping close ties to customers, and Lydic will expand his work with PACS providers, Fortune 1000 enterprises and consultants.
“This isn’t about shifting direction,” Odess wrote. “This is about creating capacity for leaders to focus on what they do best.” He noted that transitions of this kind are common in private equity-backed companies, pointing to data showing nearly 70% undergo CEO changes within two years of a buyout.
“In other words, this is a mainstream private equity play and a proven growth enabler, not a disruption,” he said. “Welcome to the mainstream security industry.”
APEX Reader debuts as next-gen platform
Alongside the leadership moves, Wavelynx is introducing the APEX Reader, which the company said “embodies 18 months of innovation and represents the company’s vision for secure, interoperable, and future-ready solutions.”
The APEX Reader, which will be showcased at GSX 2025 in New Orleans, is designed to provide a future-ready access control option that emphasizes interoperability and adaptability. The solution is billed as reducing deployment challenges by simplifying system initialization and management of devices, users and software. Its cloud-ready architecture eliminates the need for on-site servers and heavy IT infrastructure, while supporting a wide range of credentials and integration with third-party systems. By example, Hanwha Vision, an early adopter of the technology, is integrating the APEX Reader into its recently announced OnCAFE cloud-based access control platform.
“With APEX, we are delivering a product that not only redefines what customers should expect from a reader but also reflects the spirit of Wavelynx innovation driven by customer needs,” Lydic told Odess. “APEX is designed to give our partners confidence that their investment today will continue to deliver value far into the future.”
For Odess, the message is clear: “This is a growth play, a mainstream move, and a signal that Wavelynx is doubling down on leadership to make an industry impact.”
