HID has integrated its HID ATOM document reader and HID U.ARE.U facial recognition module with Soloinsight's CloudGate visitor management and physical identity and access management platform to enhance a self-service visitor check-in kiosk from Connected Technology Solutions (CTS).

Designed for global enterprises and critical infrastructure environments, the integrated solution is intended to help organizations verify visitor identities before issuing access credentials while creating a consistent and auditable visitor management process.

Hospitals, data centers, offices and logistics hubs can manage hundreds of contractors, vendors and visitors each day. Traditional check-in processes may verify little more than a visitor's name or rely on a receptionist to assess a photo ID without a way to authenticate it. The resulting gaps can create exposure for regulated and high-risk facilities when organizations cannot confirm who entered a site or maintain a complete audit trail.

By bringing document authentication, facial verification and visitor management together, the kiosk is designed to streamline visitor processing, reduce manual identity checks and maintain detailed records for compliance and investigations.

Identity verification at check-in

The process begins when a host pre-registers a visitor in CloudGate, which sends the visitor an email invitation containing a QR code. At the kiosk, the visitor scans the code and verifies their identity using the HID ATOM document scanner, which can read passports, driver's licenses and mobile IDs.

The HID U.ARE.U Face Module then performs live face verification and rejects scans that do not match the identity document or are not determined to be a live face. Once the check-in is confirmed through CloudGate, the kiosk prints a visitor pass and notifies the host. Returning visitors can also be permitted to check in without a host when appropriate.

CloudGate records each transaction in a centralized visitor record following identity verification, providing security teams with a history of visitor activity to support investigations, reporting and regulatory compliance.

Combining multiple credentials and integrations

HID said the ATOM reader can accept QR codes, passports, driver's licenses and mobile IDs through a single scanner. The device captures encoded data strips, barcodes and RFID or NFC chips while also detecting document integrity features.

The solution also supports existing HID deployments through native support for HID Signo readers and mobile credentials. CloudGate provides a vendor-neutral layer over existing access control systems with roughly 30 PACS connectors and more than 150 integrations across IT, HR, IAM and SIEM.

CloudGate produces audit-ready evidence across more than 40 frameworks, including HIPAA, GDPR, SOC 2 Type II and ISO 27001, according to the product description.

The kiosk is engineered and fabricated at CTS's Wisconsin headquarters and is backed by a three-year warranty, dedicated technical support, white-glove installation and full ADA compliance.
