Kidde Commercial has introduced the MiniLaser™ aspirating smoke detector, a compact single-zone fire detection solution designed to address what the company describes as a longstanding gap in fire protection coverage for smaller critical spaces.

Built on the company's ModuLaser® technology, MiniLaser combines advanced diagnostics with flexible configuration options to provide a highly sensitive detection solution for environments including server closets, control rooms, elevator shafts and clean rooms.

According to Kidde Commercial, traditional multi-zone aspirating smoke detection systems are often too complex and costly for these applications while many single-zone alternatives lack the technology needed to minimize nuisance alarms, simplify maintenance and meet UL 268 7th Edition standards.

"Traditional single-zone aspirating smoke detection solutions force users to choose between cost, reliability and ease of use," said Wally Ortiz, Global Product Management Director at Kidde Commercial. "MiniLaser rejects those compromises by adapting proven ModuLaser technology to a system designed specifically for critical applications in smaller spaces."

MiniLaser uses laser-based forward-scattering optical detection to identify minute particles associated with incipient fires for early intervention. The detector also incorporates integrated ClassiFire™ AI technology, which continuously adjusts detection sensitivity based on environmental conditions to reduce false positives and nuisance alarms while supporting long-term performance.

The company said the detector is designed to simplify installation and servicing through features including a dual in-line package (DIP) switch interface that allows setup without tools or laptops and front-accessible terminals for wiring and live maintenance. Flexible installation options are also intended to reduce setup time and labor costs.

MiniLaser includes pre-engineered pipe layouts that eliminate the need for custom pipe network engineering. The standard configurations support pipe runs of up to 400 feet with as many as 25 holes. Kidde Commercial said this approach can reduce overall project costs by nearly 30 percent compared with other UL 268 7th Edition listed aspirating smoke detectors. PipeCAD software also supports MiniLaser for more complex designs and a quick-fit adapter system is designed to simplify pipe installation, removal and maintenance.

To reduce ongoing maintenance requirements, the detector incorporates waste-gate airflow architecture and a multi-layer internal dust filter that help keep the system clean, extend maintenance intervals and lower operational costs over the product's lifetime.

MiniLaser is UL 268 7th Edition and ULC S529 listed and is backed by a five-year warranty, which Kidde Commercial said is more than twice as long as that of typical UL-listed aspirating smoke detection systems.
