Silex Technology Releases Atheros-Based 802.11g Wireless Mini-PCI Module
SALT LAKE CITY - silex technology america, Inc. today announced the availability of the SX-10WG, a new 802.11g compliant mini-PCI Type-III B wireless module designed to allow global original equipment manufacturers (OEM) to embed flexible 802.11g wireless technology in personal computers, peripherals, audio and video devices as well as other applications and products.
Available immediately worldwide, the SX-10WG utilizes the Atheros AR5005G chipset from Atheros Communications, Inc. The SX-10WG will be shown for the first time Oct. 4-8 at the CEATEC 2005 technology show in Tokyo -- silex booth # 5B36 in Hall 5.
Wireless LAN (WLAN) products based on the 802.11g standard are the most popular Wi-Fi connectivity option among end-users. The large installed base of wireless-enabled notebook PCs, client adapters and wireless routers and access points around the world are compatible with the 802.11g standard.
"Despite the fact that 802.11g wireless is the most dominant Wi-Fi option in the marketplace, it is still difficult to find a quality wireless module that can meet today's demanding project requirements," said Keith Sugawara, silex vice president, Networking Division. "As the #1 OEM printer connectivity solution provider in the world, we provide what manufacturers need -- reliable supply and volume flexibility. We believe the SX-10WG, backed by our various embedded project handling expertise and global presence, can enable a strong wireless network time-to-market solution for manufacturers."
The SX-10WG is manufactured at the ISO 9001/2000 certified silex Technical Center in Osaka, Japan. The Atheros AR5005G is a highly integrated all CMOS, single-chip IEEE 802.11b/g solution. It includes a 2.4 GHz radio, analog-to-digital and digital-to-analog (ADC/DAC) converters, baseband processors, multi-protocol media access control (MAC), high speed UART and a PCI/CardBus host interface.
"The successful market adoption of 802.11g products has made 802.11g the common standard for Wi-Fi connectivity by consumers and enterprise users alike," said Mark Hung, strategic marketing director for Atheros Communications. "Working with silex will provide our PC OEM and retail wireless equipment customers with a single design that can reduce the time to market for 802.11g-enabled wireless devices."
The SX-10WG is fully compliant with RoHS (Restriction on Hazardous Substances) as mandated by the European Parliament and Council of the European Union, requiring that manufacturers reduce the usage of hazardous substances by July 2006. After that date, companies whose products are not RoHS compliant will not be permitted for sale throughout Europe and eventually in parts of Asia.
