Whitepaper: Securing COOP Sweden

Sept. 25, 2004
Revamping the security system of Sweden's largest retail group with a CCTV system

The Challenge

COOP Sweden, the largest retail chain in Sweden today, has embarked upon a project which consists in the complete overhaul of the existing security network by replacing all the digital and analogue security systems across the entire network of COOP retail outlets in Sweden. A major operation considering the size of the company, which, amongst other things comprises 420 outlets, divided as follows:

- COOP Konsum - small shops requiring 7 - 12 CCTV cameras,

- COOP Forum - small shopping centres requiring 60 - 100 CCTV cameras, and

- COOP Power - large shopping centres requiring approximately 160 CCTV cameras.

The project also involves building a central CCTV security centre in Stockholm and 4-5 local centres across Sweden.

The planned rate of renovation and installation is two shops a week.

The objective is to achieve total security automation and provide a secure environment for COOP staff, as many of the shops are located in desolated areas without police protection in the vicinity.

The Solution

The enormity of the project requires that the Security Centre in Stockholm have full control and access to the security management systems across the COOP network that will include DigiEye digital video/audio management systems and DigiEye NS network servers.

The project is being developed by SYAC's Swedish partner Informationssystem AB. The DigiEye Center installed in the Stockholm Security Centre will guarantee:

- Remote verification with voice confirmation

- Remote gate management

- Alarm call management

- Remote administration and support

- Logistic support - verification of incoming and outgoing trucks

DigiEye is the key that will unify all other existing security systems by integrating with burglar, fire and access control systems and the "Shop Express" hospitality system.

Results

The project is ongoing and on schedule.
