Hoosier Security receives National Minority-owned Business Certification

17 states and 25 cities accept the NMSDC certification for public-sector contracts

INDIANAPOLIS (July 11, 2017)—Hoosier Security recently received its National Minority-owned Business Certification from the National Minority Supplier Development Council. Seventeen states, including Indiana, and 25 cities accept the NMSDC certification for public-sector contracts.

Hoosier Security joins an elite group of approximately 17,000 minority-owned suppliers with the NMBE designation. The rigorous certification process requires that minority businesses in the NMSDC network are at least 51% minority-owned and controlled by United States citizens and physically located in the United States or its trust territories.

Eligibility is established through a series of screenings, interviews, and site visits. This process distinguishes NMSDC from other organizations or entities that publish directories allowing for “self-certification” as their standard, and helps purchasing agents report vendor utilization rates and measure overall progress and performance.

Nationwide, 29 percent of businesses are majority-owned by minorities, and this share is quickly increasing, according to the 2012 Survey of Business Owners (SBO) released in 2016 by the U.S. Small Business Administration Office of Advocacy.

For the purposes of the NMSDC’s program, a minority group member is an individual who is at least 25 percent Asian, Black, Hispanic, or Native American. All NMBE-certified businesses must complete a re-certification process annually.
