Company deemed an 'excellent strategic fit'

Tyco Integrated Security, headquartered in Boca Raton, Fla., purchased the Fire and Life Safety Business of Carter Brothers LLC. Based in Atlanta, Carter Brothers will transfer the commercial security portion of its business to an affiliate of Carter Brothers.

The Carter Brothers Fire and Life Safety business sells, installs, services and maintains fire alarm systems across the country and is supported by 10 branch offices across the U.S. The business will be integrated into TycoIS, a business unit of Tyco. The acquisition was more specifically Edwards Service, a fire safety company Carter Brothers acquired from GE Security in 2007.

According to Brian McDonald, chief operating officer, Tyco Installation and Services, the transaction is complete and the business will be integrated into Tyco Integrated Security over the coming months. The amount of the acquisition will not be publicly disclosed, he added.

Founded in 2001, Carter Brothers is owned and operated by Cris Carter, chairman and John Carter, president. Cris Carter was a three-time All-Pro wide receiver whose NFL career was primarily with the Minnesota Vikings. The Carter Brothers were featured on the cover of SD&I magazine in April 2009 (www.securityinfowatch.com/10537976).

McDonald said the acquisition is a “great addition to our business.”

“This acquisition offers a strong service base of approximately 2,400 service and monitoring customers.  It is a nice fit with our structure and our strategic focus on service revenue.  Combining this acquisition with our extensive installed base allows TycoIS to broaden its service solutions and improve our customer offerings,” he added.

John Carter, president of Carter Brothers, concurred with McDonald. “Our Fire and Life Safety business is an excellent strategic fit with TycoIS,” Carter stated. “The business can leverage TycoIS’ scale and resources, such as their Centers of Excellence for installation and service.”

Carter Brothers is a National Corporate Plus member of the National Minority Supplier Development Council (NMSDC).
